Assembly on Diversity

Doherty welcomed three guest speakers to its October assembly focused around the Seven Hills’ value of appreciating diversity.

Sixth grader Kishan King told his former Doherty classmates about his trip to Norway through CISV, a global organization dedicated to educating and inspiring for peace through inter-cultural friendships. He lived with students from around the world, learning about their cultures and experiences.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Spanish teacher Kristen Diersing shared that students of all ages learned about Hispanic culture and made decorations of flags, tin foil art, and papel picado to decorate the cafeteria for a special lunch when Chef Dominick made empanadas and gazpacho for students to try.

Doherty parent Rebeca Hesse gave a presentation about her native Costa Rica, telling students about the culture, special outfits for celebrations, the dedication to education, the climate, and biodiversity.
