teaching philosophy

important skills I want to teach my students

As a school counselor, I want to empower students to achieve their full academic, social, and personal potential while promoting their overall well-being. Often, this comes from finding a healthy balance in all areas of life (school, sports/activities, friendships), practicing self-reflection and feeling identification, and identifying coping and support systems.

teaching methods to reach these goals

Students reflect on their values and purpose in health class during their 10th grade year, which allows them to focus on the “why” behind all the various activities in their lives. Students complete interviews and activities that help them identify their strengths and passions. They look outside of themselves — to the needs of the community and world — considering how they might use their passions, strengths, and values to meet these needs.

my favorite project

I love running the BeeKeeping Program, a student mentorship program in Upper School that equips juniors and seniors to welcome, connect with, and support the freshmen class. It is a joy to see the upperclassmen grow in their leadership and help to cultivate a sense of belonging at their school.

What i like best about teaching at Seven Hills

Seven Hills is committed to supporting student development in all areas, including social-emotional wellness. I love being a resource to staff and students — both developing preventative programming to meet all our students’ needs and creating more targeted interventions for those needing additional support. It is a joy to watch students overcome obstacles in a supportive environment, gaining knowledge of themselves and their relationships, and developing critical skills in self-management and responsible decision-making, preparing them for challenges they may encounter in the future.
