Middle and Upper School parents are invited to be “observers” for their children’s classes through Canvas. An observer can see assignments, due dates, and if any assignments are missing. Middle and Upper School is a time for independence, so we ask you to coach your children on connecting with their teachers if they have questions, but as parents, we can act as an important safety net to make sure nothing falls through the cracks. Click below to set up or access your or your student’s Canvas account.
Canvas FAQs
No. Each observer/parent needs their own pairing code for each student they want to observe to create their account. Once the account is created, they no longer need a code.
You must have this six-digit code from your student. These codes are generated by students.
Each observer (parent) needs their own unique pairing code.
To generate a code:
- Have your student log into Canvas.
- In Global Navigation in the top left, click Account (by your picture)
- Click Settings
- On the right side, click Pair with Observer
- Copy the six-digit pairing code (this code expires after seven days or its first use)
- Click OK
We recommend turning off all notifications. Exceptions may include …
- Course Content
- Grading
- Announcement
- Any specific course that you would like notifications for (ex: College Counseling)
Canvas is an academic tool, not a communication tool. Please email teachers to contact them.
Canvas works best on a desktop through a web browser. The app is very limited.
We recommend “card view” to view your child’s courses.
An observer is the parent or guardian of the student.
