Unit I Studies and Performs Folk Songs

Unit I students recently studied and sang the folk song, “John the Rabbit,” in Doherty music teacher Maria Eynon’s class. Eynon, who is teaching the students about the way folk songs evolve and travel geographically, shared that the song originated in Great Britain and moved, over decades, to the Midwest region of the United States. Students used drum sticks to tap out rhythms from the song as they sang and moved through the music classroom.
