Art, Language Collide in Chinese Class

Seventh graders’ work in their Chinese class proved to be newsworthy. The Cincinnati Enquirer ran a story about the students in a recent issue. Seventh graders in Mia Wu’s Chinese class made the paper for their lesson on pinyin and calligraphy. Students learned pinyin, or the phonetical pronunciation of Chinese, by crafting raps. They then practiced the art of calligraphy, first practicing on special paper before using ink on rice paper.
