Swimming Stingers at State

Five members of the varsity swim team competed at the state tournament. Sophomore Josie Schneider competed in the 200 freestyle, finishing 22nd and finished 13th in the 100 backstroke. Freshman Colin McNerney swam in the 200 and 500 freestyle, finishing 17th and 12th, respectively. The relay team of Schneider, seniors Josie Domet and Carolyn Wolujewicz, and sophomore Raine Ellerman finished 20th in the 400 freestyle relay and the 200 freestyle relay. At the district tournament, Schneider placed fifth in the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, earning her spot at state. The relay team of Schneider, Domet, Wolujewicz, and Ellerman finished eighth in the 200 freestyle relay and ninth in the 400 freestyle relay at districts. For the boys, McNerney finished fourth in the 500 freestyle and fifth in the 200 freestyle. The teams had excellent showings at the sectional tournament earlier in February. Schneider won the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. In the relays, the team of Schneider, Domet, Wolujewicz, and Ellerman won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. The Stingers went one, two, and three in the 50 freestyle with Domet winning, Ellerman in second, and Wolujewicz in third. The three swapped places in the 100 freestyle with Ellerman in first, Wolujewicz in second, and Domet in third. Junior Grace Dunson finished third in the 100 breaststroke. The girls team finished fourth overall. For the boys, McNerney won the 200 freestyle and finished second in the 500 freestyle. McNerney, junior Nate Campos, senior Thomas Dunson, and freshman Mikael Choi came in fourth for the 200 freestyle relay and fifth in the 200 medley relay. Schneider and McNerney were both nominated for Enquirer Top Ohio Division II swimmer of the week of Feb. 13.
