Seven Hills Freshman Brings Home Cappies Award for “Best Supporting”

Kaleb Kemp

Seven Hills School freshman Kaleb Kemp brought home a “Best Supporting Actor” Cappies award for his role as Cookie McGee, the wise-cracking, quick-witted character in the school’s production of Nice Work if You Can Get it. The Cappies award – a prestigious Tonys-like award for high school theater productions – is a tremendous accomplishment for Kemp, the entire cast and crew, and Upper School theater teacher Stephanie Park. This is also the first such win for The Seven Hills School theater community, who just joined Cappies of Greater Cincinnati this school year (2014-2015).

Seven Hills also claimed seven other nominations, including Best Musical, Lead Actress in a Musical, Supporting Actress in a Musical, Male Vocalist, Featured Actor in a Musical, Featured Actress in a Musical, and Lighting. The Seven Hills students were invited to perform an excerpt of Nice Work if You Can Get It at the Aronoff Center on May 22.

“All of the students were very excited to perform on the Aronoff stage,” said Park. “It was an extremely validating experience for everyone to have our work recognized by an outside audience.”
