Seven Hills Celebrates 50th Anniversary

During the 2023-24 school year, The Seven Hills School will celebrate its 50th anniversary and honor its rich history of academic excellence and strong community.

In 1974, the Boards of College Preparatory School and the Hillsdale-Lotspeich School, with an educational history dating back to 1906, voted to merge under the new name of The Seven Hills School. Dedicated Boards of Trustees, strong administrative leadership, and caring, understanding teachers and staff helped develop a shared Seven Hills culture that merged the schools’ traditions.

Over the years, Seven Hills has received local and national awards for educational excellence and athletic achievement. The school has greatly increased its enrollment, now pulling students from more than 65 zip codes and a variety of different backgrounds and experiences, and upgraded its facilities, with state-of-the-art classrooms, performance spaces, and athletic complexes on two campuses.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary, Seven Hills collected a wide array of voices from the past 50 years to share the essence and story of the school at 50th.7hills.org.

Susan Marrs’ story was one of those collected. She began at the Hillsdale-Lotspeich School in 1971 as an English teacher and is currently the director of college counseling and the assistant head of school for Seven Hills.

“Seven Hills continues to be a place where learning flowers in an engaging, relationship-based atmosphere, and where students are encouraged to challenge themselves and discover new talents and skills. The pace of life and the pressures on young people have increased exponentially in these 50 years, but growing up still feels a little easier here at Seven Hills,” Marrs said.

Seven Hills will be having a 50th anniversary celebration on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. during its Reunion Weekend. All members of the Seven Hills community are welcome to attend.
