Self-Portraits in Pre-kindergarten
Pre-kindergarteners on the Doherty Campus have been busily working on their monthly self-portraits. Teacher Katie Dawson said the students draw a self-portrait every month, as part of their writing curriculum. “We use this monthly activity to build fine motor control and awareness of ourselves while verbally sharing our ideas,” said Dawson. “The students also dictate descriptions of their ideas to their teacher and talk through their artwork.” Dawson said the drawing and dictation exercises allow her students to improve their literacy and reading comprehension.
