Seasonal Book Comes to Life for Pre-kindergarteners

Pre-kindergarteners in Judy Shuppert’s class took a step into the book, “The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin” by Joe Troiano, for a literary jaunt across Doherty Campus. The activity allowed the students to integrate and synthesize the language and reading comprehensive in their classroom lessons, as well as opened their learning space beyond classroom walls in late fall. After reading the book with Shuppert, the students moved through the story, which was told at different locations across the Doherty Campus. Each learning station was marked with a written passage chronicling scenes from the pages. The students’ search for Spookley the Square Pumpkin ended in a garden. After the students found Spookley, they concluded with a story time activity. Many thanks to Parent Community for setting up fall decorations across the Doherty Campus.
