Lower School Students Explore Strings
Third- and fourth-grade Doherty and Lotspeich students will learn about and expand their knowledge of string fundamentals, thanks to Michaela Hibbard, the Lower School instrumental director. During their first class, beginner students were taught how to properly hold and care for their instruments, attach a shoulder rest, and play notes without a bow. Experienced string players will join the class after Fall Break, as Hibbard plans to have the students learn multi-level music scores that compliment each other’s skill levels. Previously, the class ended with a recital for families in December, however, by following COVID guidelines, Hibbard introduced an out-of-the-box solution. “Since we can’t have a live recital, last year the students played for their friends as they walked to class in the morning,” Hibbard said. “It enabled them to show off their skills and share music with friends.”
