Lessons on Peace

As the campus celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Doherty students recently worked on a number of activities centered around the idea of peace with Doherty counselor Angie Bielecki. “We talked about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and how he didn’t like what was going on in the world and tried to change it peacefully,” said Bielecki. “With some of the younger students, I read ‘The Peace Book,’ by Todd Parr, and helped students trace the outline of their hands onto paper and write the word peace.” Bielecki said she worked on age-appropriate lessons with all Doherty students in mid-January, and many students posted their work on windows for parents and classmates to view from the outside.
