Learning about Kindness and Diwali

For the November monthly assembly, Doherty students in kindergarten through fifth grade discussed the Seven Hills value of kindness and learned about Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights.

Doherty and Middle School parent Vanshipal Puri spoke at the monthly assembly about how Diwali is about celebrating family with lights, dancing, and sometimes fireworks. Puri brought in some of his traditional clothing and led the students in a Diwali dance.

Art teacher Kacey Watkins connected the themes of Diwali to the Seven Hills value of kindness, caring, and compassion. The students shared examples of kindness they have seen at school and decorated cards to send to someone as an act of kindness.

Though the pre-kindergarten for 2-year-old students are too young to attend the assembly, they still learned about Diwali when fifth grader Sajni Puri visited their classroom to teach them about the festival and share how her family celebrates.

Thank you to the Ramineni family for bringing lunch for the Doherty faculty and staff to celebrate Diwali.
