Real World Learning with buses in PK2

The pre-kindergarten for 2-year-old students learned all about buses, while improving their vocabulary, motor skills, and understanding of safety. They have been working on their vocabulary, singing, and acting skills as they learn the words to “The Wheels on the Bus.”

“Acting out the song helps with development and coordination. The song is important because it increases vocabulary, enhances motor skills, and is a group activity,” said Julie Brackett, pre-kindergarten for 2-year-olds teacher.

The PK2 students also experience real world learning when they met Director of Transportation Mike Scherpenberg and explored his bus, looked at the engine, and were taught the basics of bus safety.

“One of our favorite activities is to see Mr. Mike’s bus from our classroom,” Brackett said. “Meeting Mr. Mike allowed us to explore a new environment, make connections, and develop trust and empathy.”
