Improv in First Grade
Creative dramatics teacher Russell White recently worked with first-graders on improvisational skills. Students first did a group activity, pretending to be planes flying around the room. Then, White called on pairs of students for an exercise called “That’s Dangerous!” which required students to act out very dramatic scenarios. One pair of students had to pretend the frisbee they were playing with flew into a tree! Improvisation exercises are helpful for teaching students stage direction and listening.
