Fifth graders have a flurry of fraction fun

Inspired by January’s snowy weather, fifth graders in teacher Laura OGrady’s class combined snowflakes and fractions into a creative math experience. After designing their paper snowflakes, students estimated the fraction of paper that was removed when they cut their patterns. Students developed and explained their estimation strategies to the class, and learned how to create efficient fraction estimations with unusual shapes.
