Fifth-graders built habitats for their Spanish class pets
Fifth-graders created miniature habitats for their class pets in world language teacher Megan Hayes’ class. Students used vocabulary while assembling to reinforce their new terms. “The habitat really helps create an environment where students feel empowered and engaged in learning and speaking Spanish. Class pets are a segue to facilitate discussion in the target language. We started with discussions about what type of animal their pet is and naming it. Students also decide where it lives and what it likes to eat and do. We’ll also develop their pets’ personalities using adjectives to describe it,” Hayes said.
