Fall Fun in Kindergarten
The color and activities of the fall season were pervasive on the Doherty Campus throughout the month of October. Doherty kindergarteners enjoyed a Farm Day in late October, in which they participated in a number of academic activities by visiting a variety of outdoor stations equipped with their toy stuffed animal friends on the field. “The activities included a variety of math, science, STEM, and reading activities,” said kindergarten teacher Lindsay Pietroski. “The students read to the stuffed farm friends, planted pumpkin seeds, practiced 10 frame math with eggs, and engaged teamwork to build a sturdy barn for the animals,” said Pietroski. “They also created simple machines to launch eggs and drove tricycle “tractors” to a pumpkin patch to pick their own special pumpkin.” Kindergarten teacher Cyndi Kenyon said the day ended with a few games of wheelbarrow racing and sack races where the children learned the importance of cooperation and good sportsmanship.
