Becoming Authors Around the World
In late December, Unit II students applied their studies of non-fiction writing to a multi-faceted project, in which they wrote a book about holidays from around the world. Using their knowledge, each student researched information and used it to create their own non-fiction book, which included a table of contents, glossary, and photographs with captions. “One of our students was interested in how the country of Australia celebrates Christmas during the season of summer,” said Unit II teacher Sherri Linville. “She discovered celebrations are often at the beach!” Linville said other students explored winter holiday traditions in Mexico, Egypt, South Korea, India, Russia, Italy, Germany, France, Greece, Iceland, and Japan. Celebrations such as Chinese New Year, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa were also shared.
