Teaching Philosophy

Important skills I want to teach my students

I want my students to leave my class with the skills to think creatively, express themselves freely, and approach new challenges with confidence and a sense of curiosity. I want them to see art as a means of expressing ideas and emotions, recognizing that creative risk-taking and mistakes, when met with persistence and reflection, are essential to discovery and growth.

Teaching methods to reach these goals

I aim to create an environment where students feel empowered to experiment, using a variety of materials and techniques to develop both skill and confidence as artists. Together, we explore the work of artists past and present from all over the world, learning how art communicates stories, culture, and identity. Through this exploration, students come to value the beauty of diverse artistic voices and understand that art transcends boundaries — connecting people across time, place, and experience.

My favorite projects

Arts Alive stands out because it fosters a lively and inclusive setting where students across divisions showcase their art to peers, families, and the broader community. This celebratory event beautifully blends fine and performing arts, creating a dynamic showcase of creativity and expression. Watching students take pride as they step into the spotlight highlights the powerful connection art fosters between people.

What I like best about teaching at Seven Hills

The heart of my work is the people — creative students, passionate colleagues, and supportive families, who make Seven Hills such a vibrant and inspiring place. Coupled with the beauty of our campus and a culture that encourages innovation, the spirit of our community makes it a place where creativity, connection, and joy thrive.
