Teaching philosophy

Important skills I want to teach my students

I want to teach my students to be self sufficient, personally responsible, and to be young adults who live lives of integrity with genuine concern for others. I want them to understand the big picture, to be able to see beyond the accepted way of thinking, and to be willing to challenge current thinking in an appropriate way.

Teaching methods that reach these goals

Much of this happens in the classroom during discussions and activities. I expect a certain level of involvement and behavior. I also try to present material that may challenge students’ ways of thinking.

My favorite projects

I like covering stress with the students and having them actually do some stress management techniques.

What I like best about teaching at Seven Hills

I like the positive, supportive, accepting, and caring environment at Seven Hills. This comes from students, faculty, and staff. It’s a community that cares about each other.
