Teaching Philosophy

Important skills I want to teach my students

As a part of the Upper School Academic Support Program, I provide the context within which students may appreciate that they can be successful students, help them to recognize the factors that influence their success, improve their self confidence as learners, and understand their individual learning strengths and weaknesses. This is accomplished when students are able to identify and implement individual strategies, actions, supports and systems. Additionally, I help students to develop self awareness and self advocacy skills.

Teaching methods to reach these goals

Both visual and auditory learning strategies are used to address difficulties is such areas as organization, time management, reading, written language, critical thinking, test taking, and study skills. Strategies include color coding, Venn diagramming, webbing, computer technology, Books on Tape etc.
