Teaching Philosophy

Important skills I want to teach my students

As kindergarten teachers, we want our students to be confident, well-rounded individuals who respect themselves, others, and the world around them. We want them to develop a sense of independence and responsibility and become lifelong problem solvers who love a challenge and see learning as fun!

Teaching methods to reach these goals

We use a child-centered approach to teaching that allows every child to have a voice in the classroom and take ownership of what is being taught. The children learn through thematic units and hands-on activities that are engaging and directed to each child’s interests. We provide situations where every child feels successful and can celebrate the accomplishments of others.

My favorite projects

In kindergarten, we have a project called “This is Me” and each student gets a turn to bring in items that represent who they are and what makes them special.  They also share their family traditions with the class. This project allows students to develop speaking and presentation skills and also deepens their connections with their peers. I love teaching students to respect and appreciate differences in one another and celebrate what we all have to offer our class community.

What I like best about teaching at Seven Hills

I love the sense of community at Seven Hills. Not only do I get to know each of my students very well but I become close to their families, too. Seven Hills is like a second family.
