Teaching Philosophy

Important skills I want to teach my students

Some of the most important skills I want to teach my students include collaboration, communication, perseverance, and problem solving.

Teaching methods to reach these goals

I use a project-based approach to teaching to help my students learn these skills. Students work collaboratively in pairs and small groups to complete long-term projects that require innovative thinking as well as effective communication and teamwork.

My favorite projects

My favorite projects in Project Math are the cardboard arcade in second grade and mini golf in fifth grade. I enjoy both projects because the students really get to be creative and work together as a cohesive unit to accomplish the task and because we get to share them with so many other students at Lotspeich!

What I like best about teaching at Seven Hills

My favorite part about teaching at Seven Hills is the community. Students and teachers alike are encouraged to be themselves and share their strengths and passions with one another. Diversity of cultures, ways of thinking, and talents are appreciated and celebrated at Seven Hills.
