Important skills I want to teach my students
Social Emotional Skills: I want my students to have the opportunity to explore and express their feelings in a nurturing environment. I want to guide them in experiencing positive interactions with peers to learn to share, take turns, and cooperate.
Critical Thinking Skills: I want to instill in my students a love of active learning. When students are active learners, they have the confidence to explore and will develop the ability to make connections to ideas.
Teaching methods to reach these goals
I provide classroom opportunities for students to interact in positive ways such as role playing, partner and group work, and creating a positive classroom mindset. We play games that promote cooperation and kindness. I plan activities and games that encourage problem solving and thinking in new ways.
My favorite projects
My favorite project of the school year is making connections to the past. This activity gives students an opportunity to learn more about a special person in their life, typically a grandparent. They learn how their special person grew up and the things they enjoyed as a child. Students also get a chance to explore old telephones, cameras, a manual typewriter, an adding machine, and play with toys from the past.
What I like best about teaching at Seven Hills
I enjoy the community atmosphere at Seven Hills and the inclusiveness that connects teachers, students, faculty, staff, friends, and family. The collaborative engagement at Seven Hills between educators and families, creates a valuable connectedness that is vital in nurturing successful students.
