Important skills I want to teach my students

I want to teach my students to be confident, caring, and curious. Confident to raise their hand and stick up for others. Caring to help others and know how to care for themselves and their larger communities. Curious to always learn more about something and pursue their passions!

Teaching methods to reach these goals

I teach with projects, stations, rotations, and groups. Choice through types of projects allows kids to play to their strengths and learn how to work together in order to reach a common goal. Working in groups also allows me to reach each student at their own instructional level because challenging work looks different to each student. Using stations and rotations allows me to learn/review many different skills with students at the same time.

My favorite projects

I enjoy Genius Hour and my Halloween writing the most! Genius Hour happens on Friday, and the students are allowed to research a passion and present it to the class. Also, each year, my students write me a persuasive paragraph and I choose a Halloween costume based on that. However, I think my students would say Genius Hour and Fantasy Basketball (reading version) are their favorites!

What I like best about teaching at Seven Hills

The community is what I like best about teaching at Seven Hills. The students are well-behaved and academically motivated, and so are the families. But, they also are active outside of school and learn to balance their commitments. I know this for certain because I went here as well! The community also consists of my fellow faculty members, who are flexible and always willing to lend a helping hand.
