Important skills I want to teach my students
Adaptability, curiosity, compassion, collaboration, and critical thinking — those and the courage to act will allow them to tackle any challenge presented and live interesting lives.
Teaching methods to reach these goals
Discussion, group work, reflection in their writing responses, vocabulary and word play all contribute to making our time together in class count. Gathering is still valuable!
My favorite projects
Activities with poetry are always illuminating and fun; who will bring in a poem that connects them to family or an important moment in their life, or who writes poetry and is courageous enough to share it. I also enjoy when students connect personally to the literature and tie what they are understanding to a bigger picture.
What I like best about teaching at Seven Hills
Teaching at Seven Hills allows me to refresh and take risks while keeping me grounded in what I can still be astonished by and learn. Young people keep me on my toes!
