STINGER ROBOTICS HAS FIRST COMPETITION, SEVEN HILLS HOSTS
Congrats to Stinger Robotics for a successful first competition at the First Lego League Official Qualifier hosted by Seven Hills. The team, made up of Lotspeich students, competed with 11 others teams in two events. In the morning, they gave a presentation to a panel of volunteer judges, including Seven Hills teachers and community members. The afternoon was filled with fierce competition as the teams were pitted against each other to see whose robot could best follow a course and complete tasks. The Stingers qualified for the district tournament in Loveland in January and head coach Laura OGrady received the Coach’s Award. Thank you to all the parents, volunteers, coaches, and Robotics teams that made the event possible!

Cincinnati Zoo Penguin visits Lower Schools
Doherty Unit I students and Lotspeich first graders enjoyed meeting their new friend Mira, an African penguin from the Cincinnati Zoo. Students learned many interesting penguin facts during the Zoo’s presentation like how penguins thrive in various environments (from the Galapagos Islands to Antarctica) and the similarities between a penguin’s diet and a human’s. Lotspeich students paired Mira’s visit with their science unit about animal adaptations and communication.

Lower School Spirit Night
Stinger Pride was in full swing as our Lower School basketball players were honored at Winter Spirit Night!

Kindergarteners celebrate lights
Every holiday season, kindergarteners in the Early Childhood Center learn about several holidays in which light play an important role. Students learned about Dia de los Muertos, Diwali, Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanza and held a Celebration of Light on Dec. 15. The kindergarten classrooms were decorated with the many important items used during these holidays, including a Kwanzaa kinara, candles for Diwali, and a menorah for Hanukkah.

Coding with Upper School students
Lotspeich students learned the ins and outs of coding with the help of Upper School students and Upper School computer science teacher Marcus Twyford. After a demonstration showing why coding needs to rely on focused directions rather than context clues, Upper School students assisted Lotspeich students as they learned how to code games and other activities online.
