Summer is here, Doherty!

Congrats on an excellent Closing Program to all the Doherty students, parents, and teachers. Students shared highlights of the year, showed off their musical skills, and received awards honoring their achievements. Head of Doherty Tracy Murchpraised the fifth graders on all their accomplishments at Doherty and wished them luck at the Middle School next year.

Doherty End of Year Awards

During Doherty’s Closing Ceremony in the courtyard with family and friends, several students received academic and citizenship awards. Fifth grader Eliana McKee received the Hoeland Award for demonstrating academic achievement, breadth and scope of interests beyond the classroom, leadership, citizenship, and character. Fifth grader Sarah Hassell received the Loveland Award for exceptional interest and excellence in the area of English and writing. In this year’s Doherty Spelling Bee, fourth grader Diane Chiseck came in second and fifth grader Henry Liu won. Valentina Williams was the runner up and Avery Fennell was the winner for fourth grade for the Ohio Math League. For fifth grade for the Ohio Math LeagueTyler Jordan was the runner up and Henry Liu won. Henry Liu also won the Excellence in Math AwardDoherty’s Student Council Citizenship Awards were presented to Unit I students Bradford Phillips and Jack Diedrichs, Unit II students Ethan Wood and George Platts, and Unit III students Sajni Puri and Sara Chambers.

End of Year Celebration

The prekindergarten for 2-year-olds, pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten students had an end of year celebration with their parents on their last day of school. The soccer field and playground were filled with music, bubbles, games, face painting, and a petting zoo. Congrats on a great year, early childhood students and parents!

Second grade learns about birds

The second graders traveled to the Hillsdale Campus for a visit from the Ohio School of Falconry with the Lotspeich second graders. The students learned about hawks and owls. A few courageous students assisted with teaching a zone-tailed hawk to recall.

Unit II walks the red carpet

The Unit II students ended the last week of school dressed in their best to attend an award show hosted by their teachers. Students walked the red carpet, cheered on by their classmates, as they were given awards for their achievements throughout the year. The award show was the end of a week of activities that included games and outdoor fun.
