Prevention Specialist Visits Seven Hills

Seven Hills welcomed Prevention Specialist Glenn Hall from Prevention Solutions, part of the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation to educate students about health and substance use prevention. From Jan. 29 to Feb. 2, Hall spoke with students in fifth, seventh, ninth, 11th, and 12th grade about to prepare them to make healthy and informed choices about the use of alcohol, nicotine, and other drugs. Prevention Solutions, formerly Freedom from Chemical Dependency, has been working with Seven Hills for 25 years.

Books for Lunch Recap

Books for Lunch author Andrew Sean Greer met with Upper School students, parents, alumni, and friends of Seven Hills on Feb. 2. In the morning, Greer discussed his writing philosophy with Upper School students and answered their questions regarding writing, finding inspiration, and more in The Schiff Center and the Young Family Library. Later in the day at the Summit Hotel, Greer praised the highly technical nature of the student’s questions during his address. Saddened he couldn’t answer every student’s question within the allotted time, Greer plans to continue the Q&A virtually over Zoom. During his address to parents, alumni, and friends of Seven Hills, Greer relayed the various misadventures and genuine human connections he made throughout his travels, which would become part of his inspiration for his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, “Less.” Whether he was addressing the crowd at the Summit Hotel or Upper School students at school, Greer passionately advised everyone to stay true to their identity, especially when writing. 
 
“The reason [your writing] doesn’t fit is because that’s probably the truest part of you, and you haven’t managed to integrate it into the rest [of the story] yet. So, it stands out. It’s the thing that everyone wants to remove because it makes people uncomfortable. They haven’t seen it before. And that, that is the thing to commit completely to.” Greer said.

Stinger Madness is March 4-8

Our annual week-long community giving event Stinger Madness will be all the buzzzzz March 4 through 8. 

And we need you to help fill the hills! For every contribution you make to the Annual Fund, we’ll place a stinger bee on the hill of the campus your oldest child attends.

Stinger Madness is also a competition between the divisions — the Lower Schools, Middle School, and Upper School. Each will compete for the Stinger Madness trophy which will be awarded to the division that gives 50 new gifts to the Annual Fund!
