Pumpkin Day
The entire Middle School celebrated Pumpkin Day on Oct. 27! Students worked in groups to decorate pumpkins inspired by this year’s theme: Stingers Rule the Sea! Once the pumpkins were completed, students competed in games like Walk the Plank (tug-o-war), and Save the Oceans (capture the flag), Reef Rescue (Omnikin four-square) on the Upper Field and in the Field House.

Creepy Critters Day
Sixth graders learned all about their new friend, the termite, during Creepy Critters Day in late October. Students and parents had a morning filled with fun writing exercises, experiments, and more! One of their favorite activities was drawing an ink line on a piece of paper and watching as their termite followed the line automatically. Students could also taste an array of edible, dried critters including crickets and larvae.

It’s Your World!
At the beginning of every It’s Your World class with Head of Middle School Bill Waskowitz, sixth graders look at the current global and domestic headlines on the New York Times website. Part of the beginning discussion centered around if the newspaper was completely unbiased or, if it had a bias, what a bias means. After wrapping up opening exercise, students continued learning about human migration, the push/pull factors that contribute to someone migrating, and the differences between internal and external migration.
