Seventh grade visits iSpace and Reds Stadium
Seventh graders enjoyed their two-day field trip adventures around greater Cincinnati in mid-December. Students were split into two groups, with each group taking turns between visiting the Reds stadium and iSpace. When they visited the Reds stadium, students learned what it takes for a sports stadium to house thousands of fans, and interesting facts about the Reds hall of fame. At iSpace, students conducted different experiments, such as testing various kinds of rock acidity, and learned about the path to become aeronautical engineers.

Middle School students collected items for The Caring Place from Dec. 1-13, and members of the Middle School student council facilitated donation drop-offs. The Caring Place serves the Golf Manor, Kennedy Heights, Pleasant Ridge, and Silverton areas, providing families and individuals in need with services, food, clothing, and more. Middle Schoolers collected toys, canned food, clothing, and hygiene products.

Healthy Visions discusses social-emotional situations
Healthy Visions, a Cincinnati youth program that teaches students how to traverse complex social-emotional situations, visited seventh graders to help them understand how to navigate peer pressure and find their inner voice. Students also engaged in various exercises in assessing circumstances and making decisions, like an activity where students had five seconds each turn to determine if they wanted to build, remove, or do nothing with the tower of wooden blocks.

Return of the Middle School Spelling bee!
In mid-December, the top 7 percent of spellers from sixth through eighth grade competed on The Schiff Center’s stage during the Middle School’s schoolwide spelling bee, the first since January 2020. After multiple intense spelling rounds, eighth grader Meghan Sheerin-Day won the spelling bee with the winning word “antigen.” Wonderful job Meghan, runner-up eighth grader Vibu Ramineni, and everyone who competed! “The Middle School is very proud of all of our spellers!” organizer and seventh grade English teacher Mandy Hayes said.

SIXTH GRADERS DISCOVER NEW AUTHORS THROUGH CARNIVAL GAMES
In the second annual sixth grade library carnival, students had fun eating circus treats and playing various games like a blindfolded scavenger hunt, a modified version of Connect Four, and target practice on a bulletin board. “We wanted students to discover new genres or authors they might not have otherwise leaned toward. While the students enjoyed playing the games, they were also introduced to different types of books,” librarian Megan Whitt said.
