LOTSPEICH CELEBRATES ANNUAL HALLOWEEN PARADE

Lotspeich kicked off early Halloween fun with the annual Lotspeich Halloween Parade, along with the first annual Trunk or Treat the prior weekend. Pre-kindergarteners through fifth graders paraded around the upper field track to a spooky soundtrack. Some of the many creative, colorful costumes on display included dinosaurs, witches, and superheroes!

River exploration with fifth grade

Doherty and Lotspeich’s fifth graders are doing a “deep dive” into the topics of water resources and water quality in the Cincinnati area. Students have explored the concepts through an in-depth interdisciplinary unit in science and project math. “This trip will bridge our Science Chemistry and Water units, and kick off our water quality citizen science project that we will continue on campus at the Duck Creek this spring,” Lotspeich fifth grade teacher Laura OGrady said.

Teachers present at ISACS conference

Congratulations to Lotspeich and Doherty Spanish teachers Megan Hayes and Kristen Diersing who were chosen to present at the annual ISACS conference on Nov. 4 in Minneapolis. “Our session is titled The Power of Story Listening in the Elementary World Language Classroom. I’m super excited to connect with other world language teachers and share my enthusiasm and passion for my favorite teaching method: Story Listening,” Hayes said.

Students learn the weight of building bridges

In early October, Lotspeich second graders in Jacquelyn Berting’s Project Math class constructed bridges out of wooden blocks, tape, paper, and more to analyze how different styles of bridges can sustain heavy weight for long periods. Students then tested their bridge designs by placing metal washers across their bridges and seeing if they could withstand the weight. The experiment was part of second grade’s semester-long bridges unit, a beloved tradition that culminates with students researching and reconstructing bridges from around the world, and presenting their findings to family and friends in December in Founders Hall.

Trunk or Treat

Lotspeich’s Trunk or Treat had a wonderful display of spooky spirit and good family fun. Kids of all ages dressed to impress with their creative and fun costumes. Students were shocked and amazed to see the spooky trunk decorations as they went car to car collecting candy.
