Stacy Mcanulty visits lotspeich
Lotspeich students enthusiastically welcomed award-winning author Stacy McAnulty to campus on April 26. Students learned about the value of well-founded research, the ability to create imaginative stories inspired by the world around us, and how to capture an audience’s attention through the written word. McAnulty explored the mechanics of the world through engineering before falling in love with capturing the universe’s mysteries and wonders in stories and novels. She has authored countless books, such as “Excellent Ed,” “101 Reasons Why I’m Not Taking a Bath,” “The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl,” and “The World Ends in April.”

Fourth Graders visit Camp Kern
In April, fourth graders in Sara Snyder and Shane Marsan’s classes continued the Seven Hills tradition of an annual trip to Camp Kern. Students spent two days learning more about Ohio history in an immersive environment. Students visited Fort Ancient, “met” early settlers, and completed team-building activities. “Lotspeich fourth graders have been going to Camp Kern for over 35 years. Our trip not only reinforces the social studies curriculum but also allows an opportunity for social growth and a new way to connect with their fourth grade community,” Snyder said. “The trip reinforces the Ohio history curriculum outside of the traditional classroom in a hands-on way. We are able to hike to Fort Ancient to see the ancient mounds and to visit the museum there. We also have experiential learning opportunities through a variety of activities. We hike through the Camp Kern campus with experienced camp staff who offer new information about Ohio history and the nature around us.”

Lotspeich goes to the Zoo
First and fifth grade buddies visited the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden in late April. Students loved observing various animals in their habitats from red pandas to hippos to kangaroos. The buddies also enjoyed finding new animal friends in the petting zoo.

Lotspeich assembly discusses Ramadan
Upper School students Aleesha Adhami, Areej Arif, and Zara Asghar, spoke to Lotspeich students during their assembly about Ramadan. Students loved learning more about the Islamic holy month, from why it occurs on different dates every year, to its origins, to what a typical day during Ramadan looks like. Adhami, Arif, and Asghar also discussed Eid al-Fitr, the conclusion and celebration following the end of Ramadan.
