STEAM Event a Success

Everyone had a great time at the 7Hills Lower School STEAM event at Doherty. Doherty and Lotspeich students completed various STEAM activities at stations throughout Brooks Hall. At each station, they learned about magnetism, how the eye works, polarity, and more. The stationed were manned by Middle School students, who helped the Lower School students with the activities.

Kindergarteners learn about color dispersion

In mid-April, kindergarteners from teachers Anna Nuss’s and Diane Shulteis’s classes journeyed to the Upper School science lab to learn about color dispersion with eighth graders and seniors. Kindergarteners learned how water can move objects by coloring coffee filters and using water droplets to disperse the colors. Eighth graders and seniors assisted kindergartners with color selection and operating an automated turntable used to create different designs.

Pre-k identifies local birds

Pre-k students from teachers Kathleen Koester’s and Tyler McIlwraith’s classes constructed and decorated their own binoculars to go bird watching around the Hillsdale Campus. After learning about frequently spotted birds in their local area, students were able to identify the animals out in the wild to their classmates.
