STEAM Event a Success

Kindergarteners learn about color dispersion
In mid-April, kindergarteners from teachers Anna Nuss’s and Diane Shulteis’s classes journeyed to the Upper School science lab to learn about color dispersion with eighth graders and seniors. Kindergarteners learned how water can move objects by coloring coffee filters and using water droplets to disperse the colors. Eighth graders and seniors assisted kindergartners with color selection and operating an automated turntable used to create different designs.

First and fifth grade buddies visit zoo
First and fifth grade buddies visited the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden in late April. Students loved observing a variety of animals in their habitats from red pandas to hippos to kangaroos. The buddies also enjoyed finding new animal friends in the petting zoo.

Pre-k identifies local birds
Pre-k students from teachers Kathleen Koester’s and Tyler McIlwraith’s classes constructed and decorated their own binoculars to go bird watching around the Hillsdale Campus. After learning about frequently spotted birds in their local area, students were able to identify the animals out in the wild to their classmates.
