Three Stingers sign to compete in college

Three seniors signed their letters of intent to continue their athletic careers in college at the signing ceremony held in Kalnow Gym on April 12. Carolyn Wolujewicz will be swimming for Dickinson College, Sohana Thompson will be playing tennis for West Chester University, and Julia Tamai will be playing softball at Smith College. The student-athletes were recognized by coaches and Athletic Director Scott Willard for their outstanding contributions to Seven Hills athletics. Great job, Stingers!

Boys Tennis is 13-1, leading MVC

The boys varsity tennis team is currently leading the Miami Valley Conference with an in-conference record of 5-0 and an overall record of 13-1. The Stingers started the season with a six-match win streak beating each opponent by 5-0, earning the team an Enquirer team of the week nomination for April 10. Senior Cole Cozens and the doubles team of juniors Ethan Blatt and John Corbett were also nominated for Enquirer awards for being undefeated across multiple matches. Junior Avi Mahajan was also nominated for the week of April 3 for his wins in first singles.

Big wins put Girls Lacrosse second in conference

The girls varsity lacrosse team has had a strong start to the season, opening with a 14-1 win against Roger Bacon. Senior Biz Kohnen scored four times, earning her and the team an Enquirer nomination for the week of April 3. The Stingers beat Summit Country Day 13-1, Madeira 17-3, and Princeton 18-1. Kohnen reached her 100th career goal with the Stingers this season after scoring in the April 18 game against Turpin.

Softball leads division

The girls varsity softball team sits atop the MVC Gray Conference with an in-conference record of 5-0 and an overall record of 7-2. Sophomore Annie Katuska pitched a no-hitter in the Stingers’ 15-0 win over Lockland on April 20. Senior Julia Tamai went 3-for-4 at the plate, with three runs and six RBIs. In the April 18 win over Cincinnati Country Day, the Stingers scored five runs in five innings and stole 13 bases, four by junior Alexa Kecman alone. Katuska is currently leading the MVC in pitching wins with six and strikeouts with 85. At the plate, she is also leading with 25 RBIs and is tied for first with Tamai for home runs, both with five.

Track sets school record, earns multiple top finishes

The co-ed varsity track team has set a new school record and has had multiple first place finishes this season. The mixed 4×400 relay team of senior Abigail Li, juniors Callie Drew and Carter Stevens, and sophomore Brady O’Connor created a new school record of 4:11.91 at the Madeira Invitational on April 6. On April 14 at Norwood, the 4×200 team of Drew, freshman Claire Bachelder, and juniors Laila Kerr and Margret Schnirring took first. Drew finished first in the 200. The 4×200 team and Drew in the 200 repeated their wins at the Cincinnati Country Day meet, with junior Tyler Anderson also finishing first in the long jump. At Finneytown, the team of Drew, Bachelder, Kerr, and Schnirring won the 4×400, leading the girls to a first place finish overall. Stevens and Li both won the 800 and freshman Sabrina Donovan placed first in shotput and discus. The boys finished third at the St. Bernard-Elmwood Place High School Invitational with Stevens winning the 1600 and the 800. Freshman Malcolm Faison won the 300 hurdles and the 4×400 team of Faison, Stevens, O’Connor, and sophomore Ryan Brackett took first.

Baseball undefeated in-conference

The boys varsity baseball team is second in the MVC Gray Division with a 5-0 in-conference record and a 7-1 overall record. The Stingers have had multiple high-scoring wins, beating St. Bernard-Elmwood Place 25-1, New Miami 12-0, and Withrow 16-3. Juniors Nick Cohen and Rocco Maislin and senior Will Wiles are currently in the top five for batting averages in the league. Senior Ryan Meador is leading the league with 18 RBIs and Cohen is in third with 16.
