Middle School: “Matilda Jr.”

Congratulations to the Middle School cast and crew of “Matilda Jr.” for their incredible performance! Based on a novel by Roald Dahl and adapted by Tim Minchin and Dennis Kelly, the musical tells the story of a bright and precociously bookish little girl who rebels against the unjust constraints of both her family life and the English day school to which she is consigned. With brave determination and support from friends, she challenges her circumstances and creates a new future alongside her chosen family. Special thanks to Middle School drama director Jacob Hauser, Middle School teacher Kathryn Rosenburg, and Middle and Upper School technical theater director Trey Tatum for their guidance and direction.

Shakespeare and history: discussing “Julius Caesar”

Upper School Latin and theater classes attended a performance of “Julius Caesar” at the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company on March 12. Prior to the performance, students attended a special virtual lecture from Dr. E. Del Chrol, professor of classics and chair of the Humanities Department at Marshall University. Chrol discussed the history of  Julius Caesar and Shakespeare’s version of events in a “Mean Girls”-themed talk titled “Stop Trying to Make‘Rex’  Happen: How group work stinks, even when you’re killing a tyrant.”

Unit III performs “Seussical KIDS”

Unit III students brought Dr. Seuss’ characters to life with their energetic and engaging production of “Seusical KIDS” on The Schiff Center’s main stage on March 14. The musical extravaganza showcases characters from multiple Seuss stories, like Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, and more. Bravo to the cast, crew, Lower School drama teacher Natalie Bird, and technical theater director Trey Tatum for the spectacular performance.

Lotspeich Spring Concert

Third through fifth grade students filled Founders Hall with beautiful music during the spring concert they performed for their parents in early March. Students demonstrated the growing musical talents they’ve strengthened in music teacher Robin Wilson’s class. Third and fourth grade students performed on drums, ukuleles, and xylophones. Fifth graders dazzled the audience with their handbell skills. Bravo, students!
