THANKFUL FOR THE TURKEY TANGO!

Lotspeich second-graders and seniors ushered in the winter holiday season, kicking off Thanksgiving break on Nov. 23 during the Lotspeich and Upper School assembly. Under the direction of music teacher Robin Wilson, the second-graders first danced alone then concluded the dance alongside the seniors in Kalnow Gym. Head of Upper School Matt Bolton discussed the complicated history of American Thanksgiving, and how to respectfully celebrate the day. Terfa J. Atim, community outreach coordinator and literacy support for MEAC, thanked Seven Hills students and families for donating to the Thanksgiving food drive. Head of Lotspeich Susan Miller thanked the school community for a fun day and wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving break.

Four Students get perfect ACT, SAT scores

Four Upper School seniors received a perfect composite score on their college admissions tests. Kathryn Guo, Robby Ligeralde, and Naina Purushothaman received a perfect score of 36 on their ACTs. Jenny Hu received a perfect score of 1600 on her SATs. “Less than one percent of ACT and SAT test takers nationally achieve a perfect 36 on their ACT or 1600 on their SAT, but four of them are Seven Hills students! We congratulate them on this amazing and wonderful feat,” said Director of College Counseling Susan Marrs.

Lifers Lunch

In late November, Upper School seniors, who have spent their entire education at Seven Hills, gathered for a second lunch hosted by the Development Department. The event was new this school year and members of the Development Department thanked the parents for trusting Seven Hills with their children for so long. Alumni president Gabe Davis ’03 spoke at the event about how Seven Hills helps seniors far beyond their time as students. “The connections I made at this school during my time here, greatly impacted my future in the best possible way. My connections with my teachers and peers opened doors for me long after I graduated,” Davis said.

Upper School performs "The Addams Family"

The Upper School performed “The Addams Family,” a play filled with pop-culture influencing characters such as Gomez and Morticia Addams, Fester, Wednesday, Pugsley, Lurch, and Grandma, with outstanding comedic flair. Actors delivered engaging performances, skilled choreography, and a show rooted in familial love. Students also directed lighting, sound, and set changes. Encore!

Seventh graders read books to Doherty students

Seventh graders from science teacher Kristin Suer’s class read their handmade solar system books to Doherty kindergarteners and first graders. Before this, the seventh-graders worked in groups to research and design their books based on their choice of planet for their Unit 2 project. Students could base the book on the planet itself or as a setting for their story. The leaders of each group presented the books to their peers, as well as read to Doherty students.

Students celebrate and learn more about Diwali

Second graders in teacher Cicely Knecht’s class learned more about Diwali, the festival of lights, as parents read short stories, and taught the students how to make diyas and rangolis, the traditional art made at the entrance of the house, which brings good luck and greets guests with a warm welcome. Upper School students also had the opportunity to learn and celebrate Diwali. Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Racheal Quinn and Upper School diversity coordinator Amaris White decorated Four Corners and provided treats and information about the celebration as students made their way to classes.
