Unit I Students Learn About Labor Day

October 5, 2026

Before Labor Day festivities kicked off, Unit I students in Amy Kulhavik’s class learned about the holiday, why it’s commemorated each year, and the different ways people celebrate it.

Addison Smith and Aarian Mistry create their own fireworks above the city’s skyline using glitter.

Because fireworks are a big part of Cincinnati’s Labor Day traditions, students brainstormed adjectives to describe them, including “loud” and “colorful.” They then put their creativity to work, pasting an outline of the city’s skyline onto construction paper and creating fireworks above it out of glitter.

Students also completed a Labor Day color-by-numbers worksheet, rounding out a fun, hands-on lesson about the holiday.

Simon Kanfer says fireworks are loud and pretty.
