Doherty Takes a Trip to the Theater
October 30, 2026
From the classroom to the stage! In October, Unit I, second grade, and Unit III Doherty students headed to the Aronoff Center to experience the magic of live, professional theater.
Unit I and second grade attended “The Adventures of Tortoise and Hare: The Next Gen” — a modern continuation of Aesop’s classic fable.
Set 10 years later, the story follows Tortoise Junior and Lil’ Hare as they embark on their own adventures in a world of smartphones and video games. When the two young characters find themselves in unexpected territory, their parents, Old Man Tortoise and Big Daddy Hare, must put aside their differences to rescue them.
With seats at the very front of the theater, students got a close-up view of the action, music, and excitement onstage.
Before the performance, students participated in a readers theater activity to familiarize themselves with the storyline. Unit I and II teachers Amy Kulhavik and Sherri Linville also introduced the story’s central lesson: that perseverance and consistency can matter more than speed, reminding students that sometimes slow and steady really does win the race.

Unit III also ventured to the Aronoff Center in October, attending “When Science Goes Viral,” a science-focused production hosted by Mister C, best known for his show “DIY Science Time” on PBS.

The performance brought science to life through experiments and demonstrations, including jumbo centripetal force boards, Mentos geysers, and giant elephant toothpaste.
Both trips offered students an engaging opportunity to learn and experience the excitement of live performances.
