Making Their Mark: Doherty Students Embrace International Dot Day
October 5, 2026
Every year on Sept. 15, International Dot Day celebrates creativity, courage, and collaboration. For years, Doherty teachers and their students have observed this special day with fun activities inspired by the book that started it all: “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds. “The Dot” tells the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark.”
This year, after reading the book, Unit I and Unit II students embraced its message by making a dot to decorate classroom doors, drawing pictures featuring a dot on the page, and creating pixel art.
Students also took advantage of the beautiful weather. Dressed in their favorite pajamas for Spirit Week, they ventured outside and transformed the courtyard into a colorful display of chalk dots.
