Throughout October, Doherty students were able to enjoy “Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn” by Kenard Pak while surrounded by the changing nature along the pathway through campus thanks to the outdoor story walk created by librarian Jo Schnirring. “’Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn’ is a great book about the changing of the seasons,” Schnirring said. “On each page, readers are invited to notice the small changes in nature as summer fades and autumn arrives. The story encourages mindfulness, observation, and an appreciation for the world around us, making it a perfect choice for an outdoor reading experience,” she said. |
The story walk is a way to bring reading outside of the library and allow students to connect with nature and talk about the illustrations with their classmates, read at their own pace, and compare what is happening in the book to what is happening around them.
“It blends literacy, nature, and movement all into one experience,” Schnirring said.
