Halloween Fun!
We’re having a fiendtastic time at Lotspeich during this spooky season! On Oct. 28, Lotspeich families and friends had a wonderful time showing off their costumes, debating the best candy collection method, and playing games together during Trunk or Treat! On Oct. 31, Lotspeich students paraded their costumes in the annual Halloween Parade in the Kalnow Gym. For the first time in several years, the Upper School students also attended the parade, cheering on the Lower School students.

Pre-K creates an art museum
Pre-k students from Tyler McIlwraith’s class created their own art museum in late October. There were multiple stations which showcased students’ work and included animation, sculptures, and more! Gallery visitors could pick up a program to borrow during the length of their student-guided tour through the museum. The program discussed the different questions the little artists had pondered while they curated their museum pieces, such as “What is an artist?” and “Are you an artist?”

School House Symphony visits Lotspeich
The School House Symphony recently visited Lotspeich’s pre-k, kindergarten, and first grade students! The Symphony performed music and explained the difference the different kinds of instrument families. Students also learned about the muscians’ personal instruments which were the cello, flute, clarinet, trombone, French horn, drums, and violin. Students asked questions about each instrument, such as why the violin needs a chin rest, why the flute belongs to the woodwind family when it’s made of metal, and why a clarinet has so many keys. It was a wonderful morning filled with music! The School House Symphony will return later in the quarter to perform for the second through fifth graders.

Monarch Migration
In late September, science teacher Kate LaBare’s fourth grade students released some of their recently hatched Monarch butterflies into the wild. The butterflies departed for their multi-generational journey to central Mexico, and the newly released butterflies’ descendants will migrate back to Cincinnati next summer. Students learned about the biology and mechanics of the perilous 3,000-mile adventure and wished their beloved butterflies safe travels.
