Opening Ceremony kicks off school year

On the first day of the 2023-24 school year, fourth through 12th grade students from both campuses came together in Kalnow Gym for the annual celebration marking the beginning of the year. Seven Hills selected respect for others and appreciation of diversity as the Seven Hills value that will be a focal point for the year. In his opening address, Head of School Chris Garten encouraged students to learn about the world and seek out different perspectives to better their own understanding. “Respect for others and appreciation of diversity means we remain open, even eager, to learning about other people’s cultures and beliefs and their lived experience. It means we make a sincere effort to understand and respect the emotional experience of those in our school who are different from us,” Garten said. Representing each division, Doherty fifth grader Eulalie Briquet, Lotspeich fifth grader Kai Vadivelu, eighth grader Eli Kampel, and seniors Grace Dunson and Rex Shaffer each shared their own perspective about how respect and diversity makes Seven Hills a welcoming community for everyone. “At Seven Hills, we do not only learn from books and in the classroom, we learn from each other, too. Diversity is all around us, in our classmates and teachers,” Briquet said. The boys varsity tennis team was also honored for the state championship win in the 2023 spring sports season.

Fall Spirit Night

Stinger Pride was buzzing to capacity at our Fall Youth Sports Night on Aug. 31. All our fall athletes in grades 1-6 were honored during the varsity soccer games. The youth athletes got high-fives and cheers as they ran through the tunnel of the varsity soccer players and coaches. Great job, Stingers!

Seven Hills continues partnership with Best Point

Seven Hills is continuing its partnership with Best Point, a prominent local mental health provider, to offer mental health counseling services on the Hillsdale and Doherty Campuses for students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

Haley Muth is capable of working with students in third through 12th grade. Muth is a licensed professional counselor with experience working with children and families. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Xavier University and a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from the University of Cincinnati. Her office is located in the eighth grade wing of the Middle School.

Emily Daugherty is an infant and early childhood health therapist and works with students in pre-kindergarten through third grade. Daugherty works at both Doherty and Lotspeich Lower Schools.

Services are offered relating to the following: depression/anxiety/ADHD, parenting strategies, learning strategies/classroom support, sleep problems, trauma, loss/grief, crisis intervention and response, family support/parenting support, impulsivity/aggression, relaxation techniques, and practicing and applying new skills at home and at school.
