Upper School Students Create Transparent Sculptures
March 2, 2026
Inside the Donovan Art Center’s basement, Daniel Vance’s sculpture students are hard at work learning how to create body casts.
The Upper Schoolers begin by wrapping a volunteer or a dummy in cellophane wrap. Once complete, students then repeat the process by layering tape on top of the cellophane before slowly cutting it away in pieces. Afterwards, students carefully reassemble the different parts and secure them together with more tape.

When they’re finished, the artists have a transparent cast of the human body.
Vance shared when the class has completed the unit they plan to potentially hang the sculptures from the ceiling.
