Third Grade Visits Sign Museum

February 2, 2026

As part of their economics unit in social studies and upcoming project-based learning focused on creating a marketplace, Lotspeich third graders went on a field trip to the Cincinnati Sign Museum.

During their visit, students participated in the “Financial Literacy: Convenience vs. Quality vs. Price” tour. The program used examples from the collection to discuss how businesses and individuals attempted to balance all three factors as they made financial decisions.

Students also learned how people may weigh the costs of an item or opportunity based on how convenient it is, its quality, and its price.

Students went on a “shopping” trip on Main Street in the museum. Using a budget, students had to plan a fun weekend day without overspending.

“While we have covered some of the basic principles of economics, the field trip really brings some of the concepts to life through the lens of the signage and how that connects to the ideas of how convenient something is, versus its quality and price,” Sarah Gaunt, Lotspeich third grade teacher, said.
