Seven Hills Celebrates Lunar New Year
March 2, 2026
Lunar New Year was Feb. 17 and the celebrations reached all levels of Seven Hills with students teaching their classmates about the holiday and sharing traditions.
At Doherty, kindergartners Asher Wang and Brianna Wang — with some help from their families — taught their classmates about how they celebrate Lunar New Year, explaining the meaning behind customs, festive foods, and decorations.

The Unit III students and their pre-kindergarten for 2-year-old Bumble Buddies learned about the holiday from a presentation by Unit III student Sarah Guillen. The PK2 class also welcomed the Wood Family to read a book about Lunar New Year.
At Lotspeich, kindergartner Lucas Peng and his parents shared how they celebrate and led the class in making lanterns.
“It was both fun and fascinating to discover similarities and differences in the ways we celebrate, and we are so proud of our students for sharing their cultures with confidence and joy,” Doherty kindergarten teacher Lindsay Pietroski said.

Middle and Upper School students taking Mia Wang and Nanyue Zhu’s Chinese classes made dumplings together, a practice often done with family during the new year celebration. The seventh graders shared what they have learned about the holiday with the sixth grade class, leading them in a celebratory song and dance.

In honor of the holiday, the Upper School Chinese Club brought Boba Cha to campus to offer boba tea during Middle and Upper’s lunches in the Hillsdale Commons.
