Middle and Upper Schoolers Attend Ohio Junior Classical League’s Fall Forum
October 5, 2026
In late September, seventh, eighth, and ninth grade Latin students traveled to Columbus Academy for the Ohio Junior Classical League’s Fall Forum. Fall Forum is a one-day Latin convention where students participate in many different activities.
The morning began with a lecture from Bryan Doerries, artistic director from Theater of War, a production company that works with actors from different industries who perform dramatic readings of seminal plays.
Later in the day, students crafted impromptu art projects inspired by the theme, “aqueducts,” played Olympika, took academic tests, and finally, competed in a Certamen tournament.
Certamen is a quiz-bowl-style game with questions covering Latin grammar and vocabulary, Roman history, culture, and mythology, and English derivatives of Latin words.
Congratulations to the following students for placing at the Fall Forum:
- Freshman Zoe Clemens — second in Intermediate Certamen (on a team with students from other Ohio schools) and third in academic testing.
- Eighth grader Lucas Hanlon — tied for fourth in academic testing.
- Eighth grader Kai Vadivelu — tied for fourth in academic testing, fourth in Novice Certamen on a team with seventh grader Ayan Nayak and students from other Ohio schools.
- Seventh grader Eehaan Ashok — third in Novice Certamen on a team with seventh grader Kishan Patel and students from other Ohio schools.
- Seventh grader Alisha Mahajan — second in academic testing, second in Novice Certamen with students from other Ohio schools.
