Matia Kastner Makes School History As First Individual Golf State Champion
October 30, 2026
In mid-October, the varsity boys golf team competed in the OHSAA Division III State Championship at NorthStar Golf Club, just outside Columbus.
After the first day of competition, the individual leaderboard was incredibly tight, with five golfers tied for first place, including senior Matia Kastner.
Heading into day two, the pressure was on. Even after the first nine holes of the final round, Kastner was still tied for the lead.
What happened next was remarkable.
Over his final seven holes, Kastner recorded five birdies and two pars. He finished with rounds of 71 and 67, for a two-day total of 138, six under par, winning the individual state championship by four strokes. With this performance, Kastner became the first individual golf state champion in Seven Hills history.
Not only that, but his performance also approached tournament records. Kastner finished just one stroke away from both the all-time lowest single-round score and the lowest 36-hole total in the history of the Division III State Tournament at NorthStar Golf Club.
Following his historic win, Kastner had the opportunity to step into the spotlight and share more of the story with 700WLW’s Bill Cunningham during a visit to iHeart Radio Cincinnati.

Seven Hills Middle School golfers also had a strong finish to their season in early October, with two teams competing in the Cincinnati Middle School (CMS) golf league end-of-season tournament. The team competing at The Mill Course finished second in the city, just five strokes behind first place, while seventh grader Eli Spar was the medalist (player with the lowest score) with a 69.
