Lotspeich First Grade, Doherty Unit I Visit Sharon Woods

December 3, 2025

On Nov. 20, Lotspeich first graders and Doherty Unit I students visited Sharon Woods in Sharonville to learn about life in Cincinnati 200 years ago.

They eagerly participated in hands-on activities, gaining a deeper appreciation for the resourcefulness and ingenuity of early settlers. As they explored the rustic cabins and historical exhibits, the children listened intently to the stories of life in the 19th century, their imaginations ignited by the tales of perseverance and community.

Students walked through Heritage Village, where they learned how to:

  • process wool for clothes and other textiles,
  • use the byproduct lanolin for skincare,
  • balance buckets used to carry water, and
  • use antique home appliances like a manual egg beater.

This enriching experience not only provided a window into the past but also inspired the young learners to appreciate the comforts and conveniences of their own lives, fostering a sense of gratitude and wonder.
